Hearty congratulations, Leanne! What an honour, to have a book published! I'm a writer and I can't even make that claim ... yet. I'm sure MYOB must be thrilled with the efforts that you, Marian and David have put in to making their product shine even more brightly. Well done!

We are very fortunate in Australia, as he United States is one of the rare industrialized nations that doesn't require companies to provide compensation for employees on maternity leave.

This is yet another example of the resources available to women in Australia at one of the most stressful times of their lives.

What a great country, we've so much to be thankful for.

All the best
Catherine

Hi Linda,

As much as anything, it's all about looking at the new financial year as a "fresh start". Sometimes, there can be nothing more disheartening than seeing the same old accounts receivable balances coming up on the list when they have alreasy been there for a year plus and you know perfectly well that they will still be there next year- as you say, if the value doesn't warrant a legal stoush, then write them off.

I think one valuable lesson we can all learn from writing debtor balances off is to assess how they became bad debts in the first place. After the event, we can all sit back and say, "If only I hadn't done this or that< I would have been paid". When it comes to writing off these debts, ask yourself that very question, establish what reasons predicated the balance not being paid and, if at all possible, ensure that you change the way you do things to stop it from happening again.

Re shredding paperwork - you can always consider scanning it all as you go so that you simply maintain an electronic copy. You would have to seek some advice from a registered Tax Agent as to what you can and cannot do but this is possible. Alternatively, use a confidential shredding service - they are not expensive and it can be a lot quicker than doing it yourself.

Thanks for your continued support Linda - always much appreciated.
Cheers

Hi Sally - back from the Middle East? I really do not see the point in posting something that can be accessed from many other sources. Also, as you know, we like to try and put a practical and pro-active slant on what we do. THe emphasis of the topic is on practical things you can do to look forwards to the next financial year from a business perspective - the tax people can look after the other stuff!

I hope we were able to offer up something of use - thanks for your continued support.
Cheers

Apologies for taking so long to respond to your comments Annabel. Firstly, lucky you having a husband who will do all that donkey work.

I don't think it really matters when you sit down and do some planning as long as you actually do some! THe fact that you are actually doing some puts you ahead of the game and certainly enables you to keep an eye on where you are, where you are going and what you may or may not need to do to keep things on track.

I appreciate you taking the time to respond.
Cheers

I like the spring clean effect of the end of tax year - and the extra excuse when chasing debtors that its not just for my benefit, but 'being the end of the tax year it would be nice to clean the slate?' ;)
And yes, like you suggest, I do write off some where the amount owed doesn't warrant the time and effort for any more repeated phone calls and emails :(
And then there's the shredding of paperwork that can finally be dumped after 5 years - woohoo!!
My recent post <a href="http://journeyjottings.com/blog/2011/06/expedition-to-an-island-beach/" rel="nofollow">Expedition to an Island Beach</a>

So nice to have a forward thinking post, rather than a 'survive-tax-time-post'... as you mentioned, Ian, there's plenty of info out there to cover that.

I appreciate the suggestions offered and it prompts me to use 1 July as a motivator to drive through the next 6 months.
