We hear many stories on our travels about businesses which are seemingly successful but, for one reason or another, have lost direction and focus. The end result of this is often that the business is just not making as much money as it should. The reasons for this loss of direction and focus can be many and include:
- time management – the owners seem to spend endless hours just “chasing” the business with no time left over for the things which matter
- boredom – owners are seeking a new challenge for the business
- lack of focus – owners are too busy with issues outside the business (personal, community etc) to give the business the time it needs
- lack of planning – owners have thought about what to do next but have not really worked out how to do it
- lack of cash – the business seems to make money but there’s nothing left over to invest in new projects.
Sometimes these issues can be solved very quickly simply by having someone from outside the business providing an objective opinion. Other times, some more detailed work may be required in order to discover how the business has arrived at it’s current position and evaluation strategies to move it forwards.
It’s not only commercial businesses which face these problems; many not for profit organisations suffer an ever increasing workload of compliance and paperwork which diminishes their capacity to provide the services they were set up for in the first place. TNG has many years’ experience in the not for profit sector and can assist those organisations streamline their operations to enable them to concentrate on what they do best.
